Q What is a Blog? What is BlogEverywhere?

A A blog is the short form for web log. It is an online journal of anything an individual may want to discuss. BlogEverywhere is a simple way for you to log your thoughts and comments on any web page as you surf the web. It enables a virtual water cooler discussion on every web page. Over time we build up an online journal of your first hand accounts and unique perspectives on pages of interest to you. Everyone visiting that page can view your comments giving you a potentially large audience. Other viewers can reply to your comments thereby creating a two way conversation.

Q How does BlogEverywhere work?

A In order to provide the simplest blogging interface on every website it is necessary to have our blogbar. We support Internet Explorer on Windows (other browsers and platforms coming soon). Once the blogbar is installed within your browser, simply click on the Read Blogs and Write Blogs buttons as discussed below.

Q How do I add my comments to a web page?

A Simply click the Write Blog button on your BlogEverywhere Blogbar. This will split the browser window into two sections. The top section contains the original web page you were browsing for easy reference and context. The lower section is where you can simply type in your comments. Saving the comment causes it to get published. BlogEverywhere is designed so everyone can post comments on any web page. You don't need any special knowledge to use it - just type and publish.

Q What is an RSS ticker?

A Several web sites provide their content as raw data feeds. The Blogbar can take this data and display it in the form of a ticker. All the feeds that you subscribed to are displayed in a rotation within the ticker. The ticker button may be used to turn the ticker on and off . Moving your mouse over a headline pauses the ticker and provides more information about it. Clicking the headline will open a new browser window with that story.

Blogbar Tools | Top

Q How do I use the RSS Ticker?

A Whenever your Blogbar detects a site that contains an RSS feed, you will see the orange RSS icon displayed on the Blogbar. Clicking on this icon causes all the feeds available on the page to toggle between being subscribed and unsubscribed. Clicking on the down arrow will reveal a drop down menu with a list of available feeds. Simply select a feed and it will appear in your ticker after a few moments.

Blogbar Tools | Top

Q How do I remove or disable an RSS feed from the ticker?

A Click on the down arrow next to the logo and select the RSS Ticker menu item. Click it to show the RSS ticker window with a list of all your RSS subscriptions. You may use click on an entry and press the Remove button to permanently remove a feed or just uncheck it in the dialog box to temporarily disable it from being displayed in the ticker.

Q How do I use the popup blocker?

A The 'Popup blocker' automatically prevents any popups appearing on your browser when it is turned on. The popup blocker is a toggle switch that is turned on & off every time you click on it.

When turned on, the button has a counter indicating the number of blocked popups.

Blogbar Tools | Top

Q I have allowed popups to appear for a site – why are they still being blocked?

A Not every popup on a site is necessarily owned by that site. If the 'allowed' site displays popups from 3rd parties (i.e.. popups owned by someone else), those popups will continue to be blocked when the popup blocker is 'on'. To ensure you see ALL popups on a given site (whether they are owned by the site itself, OR by a 3rd party), turn the popup blocker 'off'.

Blogbar Tools | Top

Q How do I use the Zoom tool?

A The zoom tool allows you to increase or decrease the magnification of the current web page (both text and images). Simply click it to reveal the drop down menu and select the zoom level you want.

Blogbar Tools | Top

Q How do I use the Highlighter?

A The highlighter allows you to easily locate your search words on the current web page. Clicking on the Highlight button will mark your search words in different colors (up to 5) on the page. If you keep the Highlighter turned on, it will highlight those search words on all web pages as you are surfing. The highlighter is a toggle switch that is turned on & off every time you click on it.

If you would like to highlight other words on the web page, type the word(s) you would like to highlight in the search box. Instead of hitting the Enter key and click on the highlighter again the new word(s) will be highlighted.

Blogbar Tools | Top

Q How do I use the word finder?

A The word finder makes each of your search words into a button at the end of the Blogbar. Clicking on this button will scroll the browser window and highlight the next occurrence of that word. This makes it easy to scan for words you need to locate, especially within large documents.

Blogbar Tools | Top

Q Why have some of the features on my Blogbar changed?

A Periodically, the BlogEverywhere Blogbar will automatically update itself to add new features or fix any flaws.

Blogbar Tools | Top

Q Can I delete a comment?

A No, BlogEverywhere does not allow comment deletion. Once a comment has been placed, it is a part of a contextual conversation and has replies from others and context. This structure will break if comment deletion is allowed. You can simply add another comment to clarify or retract a previous comment.

Flag

BlogEverywhere is a self-policing community. Blog posting is free and nearly immediate. But all posts are subject to our Terms of Use.
Our flagging system empowers our users to identify inappropriate postings for removal, in a way that is much more effective than any staff could ever do.
These system are located on the right side of each post:

  • Spam = advertisements, inappropriate posts, etc
  • Misplaced = a blog which is not relevant to the page on which it was posted
  • Vulgar = the use of offensive and unsuitable language
  • Plagiarized = illegally copied from another copyrighted source
  • Prohibited = against the BlogEverywhere Terms of Service
  • Worst of = for the worst blog among all blogs within a given category.

You can take action if you feel a post is inappropriate. If a post receives enough negative flags it will automatically be removed, with only one flag per person per post being counted.
